I've never seen a flat-top three on a 3035 date wheel. I know my 16800 has the round top three's and open 6's and 9's. I thought the flat-top 3's were only on the 1500 series .

The Raven Trekker 39, as an example, has an appealing design with a flat brushed 5-link bracelet and bezel to contrast the high polish handset and dial markers, a matte coin edge on the bezel, no crown guards, a warm or bright matte / glossy yellow dial depending on the light, a brushed metal date wheel to match the aesthetic, a striking top . Here are a few photos of date wheels removed during a service and a shot of an early 1970s Submariner with the painted date wheel. The brushed steel finish date wheels were used during the late 1970s in GMTs Subs and possibly other models. The 1960s though most of the 1970s, the GMTs will have white date wheels. Date wheels are a serviceable part.

Here is the general progression of the date wheels based on year and distinguishing characteristics: Early 1960’s to Middle 1960’s: round 3, closed 6 & 9, and flat 7. Middle 1960’s to Late 1960’s: round 3, closed 6 & 9, and hooked 7. Early/Mid 1970’s: flat 3 and open 6 & 9. How to align the date wheel: 1. Put small pin head sized drops of glue on the date wheel (not the overlay). 2. Using the stem as horizontal line, gently put the overlay onto the date wheel lining up one of the numbers. 3. Install the dial and check the alignment (look to see if it is up, down, left or to the right).
Rolex 1680 Date Wheel. The factory-issued date wheel on all ref. 1680s had a brushed silver metallic finish, and all the 6s and 9s were open (apart from on the 26, which was closed for some reason). This seems primarily because the underside of the 2824 datewheel is completely flat, therefore will not engage properly. Whereas the underside of the 2836 datewheel is slightly raised/profiled and does engage on the date change mechanism.
